A Letter from Jennifer...
Sometimes it's hard to know where to begin. When someone says "Tell me about yourself..." I often wonder what exactly they want to know. As I thought about writing a short note to you, my future client, I began to think about what I would want to know before choosing a counselor. So, that is what I have decided to share with you.
I could spend all day listing things about my education, special training, or technical skills, but honestly, while I believe those things are important, I don't believe that credentials are all that matters in finding the right therapist. Don't get me wrong, choosing a skilled therapist is extremely important, but so is finding someone you can trust and connect with and I believe you should be able to have both. So, below you can read all about my credentials, but here I want to take a minute to share with you my heart.
As far back as I can remember, I have always wanted to help people. Whether it was helping my mom with the laundry, or listening to a friend in need, ministering to people has always been part of my DNA. I grew up in church with a father who was a minister and an family who loved the Lord. So, entering the counseling profession really just formalized and gave an official title to what I have always done and who I have always been. Knowing that, it's not surprising that I a grew up to marry a pastor and open a counseling center. It seemed like a natural progression and I feel very blessed to have the privilege of sitting with my clients and seeing them grow.
Ultimately, I believe that healing comes from God and that Christian counselors are simply willing servants God uses to walk others through their healing process. I see myself as a channel through which God pours healing and guidance into others. It's not because of me, but all through Him. I am married to a wonderful man who is a Worship and Student Pastor and we have two children and two therapy dogs named Chaz and Obie who frequent the office and are loved by all of my clients-especially my kids and teens.
The main verses that guide my ministry are found in Isaiah 61 which say:
"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news...to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners...to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor...They will rebuild...and restore...and renew the the places long devastated."
That is what Life Renewal is all about...seeing lives renewed, rebuilt, and restored.
So, that's who I am and I can't wait to meet you and learn who you are too!
Renewed by Him,
Jennifer
